Ohio city’s ‘cash hunts’ draw thousands to use cryptic clues to find cash, game tickets

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WKRC) – An Ohio city’s “cash hunts” are drawing thousands to find cash prizes and special bonuses, like sports tickets.

According to WEWS-TV, thousands of people are visiting the City of Cleveland to participate in “Find the Cash Cleveland,” which is followed by more than 40,000 people on Instagram.

The creators of the game, Khristian Santana and his wife, told the outlet that they began quietly stashing cash around the city under the name “Find the Cash Cleveland” (or the backup account “Find the Cash CLE”).

The rules of the game are as follows, per the outlet:

  • Follow the Find the Cash Cleveland Instagram account
  • Decipher the clues
  • Get to the prize location before anyone else

According to WEWS, the drops come fast and the cash prizes range anywhere from $40 to $200, along occasional bonuses, such as tickets to a Cavaliers game.

“It’s just fun for us. It’s fun for them, and everybody wins, I think,” Santana told reporters with WEWS.

Santana told the station that he views the game as giving back. When speaking to the outlet, Santana said he uses the profits from his barbering and tattoo business to fund the cash drops.

“There was a time me and my wife were living in an attic with our son, on a futon,” Santana told WEWS. “At that moment, I would’ve loved to have somebody help us out the way we needed it.”

According to the outlet, the cash hunts aren’t just fun, but also help visitors and locals discover more parts of the city.
